5 Reasons Why Women Getting Breast Implant Revisions
Breast augmentation surgery does not always guarantee satisfaction. This is particularly true for those who ask for breast implant revisions.
According to a study that was conducted by the two breast implant manufacturing giants, Mentor and Allergan, the results showed consistent requests for revision usually within 3-6 years’ time after primary breast augmentation surgery. It is estimated to fall within 13-28% yearly.
The reasons for revision surgery include:
1. Not satisfied with breast implants size
The main reason why women choose to undergo breast augmentation surgery is to enhance their breast sizes. That is why there is always that possibility that they would find a certain surgical result unfulfilling right after surgery, or they might’ve gotten used to it over the years.
The downside to this is that this could push women with an unrealistic view of their body image to ridiculous lengths. It is okay to go up a cup size or two, but when you are almost running out of alphabets to name your cup size, this simply means it has gotten out of control. Aside from becoming aesthetically disturbing, this could turn out to be a health problem in the long run.
2. Breast Sagging
The weight of the implants, the effects of gravity and skin aging are all contributing factors which could lead to breast sagging. As a result, some women opt to have breast implant revision where they have the implants removed and/or replaced. For better aesthetic breast implant results, a breast lift may also be performed to improve the perkiness of the breasts and for generally pleasing results.
3. Asymmetrical outcome
There are certain cases where a woman may have asymmetrical breasts with one becoming larger than the other, or one sagging more significantly. In this case, it is imperative that a corrective procedure should be done. A breast lift or changing breast implants may have to be done, depending on the assessment of the surgeon.
4. Breast implant malposition
Breast implant malposition occurs when the implants are not positioned properly resulting in an odd-looking breast projection and placement. This can be due to surgeon error, the lack of proper aftercare, capsular contracture or simply the absence of good massage while recovering. In this case, a breast implant revision would have to be done because manual manipulation would not suffice to keep the implants in the right placement.
5. Capsular Contracture
Capsular contracture is a complication in breast augmentation surgery where a fibrous scar tissue forms around the breast implants. This is considered a normal reaction of the body as a reaction to what it detects as a foreign material. The problem sets in when the scar tissue grows more pressing on the implants causing significant pressure inside the breasts.
The only way to relieve this discomfort is through breast implant revision. To prevent this from occurring yet again, a surgeon can apply topical medication inside the breast pocket to prevent excessive scar tissue formation. Also, regular breast massages and exercise also does significant help to prevent contractures.
If you want to get breast implant revision, make sure that you only entrust this to a good surgeon who is also experienced in performing this specific type of surgery. You can never be too careful especially when it involves opening your body yet again.
