Inverted Nipple Correction
(Nipple Correction Surgery)
Inverted nipples can cause functional problems and emotional concerns for patients with this anatomical feature. Patients with inverted nipples typically have this condition from puberty when they developed breasts. Tethering bands that pull the nipple inward cause the inversion.
There are varying degrees of severity of inverted nipples. Correction of inverted nipples can improve both the appearance and functioning of breasts. Patients experience greater comfort and confidence after surgery.
Inverted nipples can be caused due to nipple variation from birth, breast development, breastfeeding, trauma, surgery, scars, major weight loss, breast cancer, ptosis, or breast infection.
The doctor typically performs surgery for correction of inverted nipples under local anaesthesia as an outpatient office procedure. Depending upon the degree of nipple inversion, your doctor will choose the most appropriate surgical technique.
The procedure generally takes about an hour. Recovery time is just a few days or less and the scars are usually hardly visible, or not visible at all. Following this corrective surgery, patients experience long lasting results with nipples projecting outwardly.
1. How long does it take before results are apparent?
Patients can see the results immediately. Strenuous activity should be avoided for up to 2 weeks post-surgery. Please ensure that you have adequate rest and incisions are kept clean during this time to avoid infection.
2. Are results long lasting?
Yes, nipple inversion surgery provides long lasting results so that patients have functioning nipples that project outwardly. Patients experience greater comfort and confidence after surgery. Recurrence is rare, but should it happen, revision can be performed to restore normal nipple projection.
3. How long does the surgery take?
Surgery for nipple inversion generally takes about thirty minutes to an hour. Surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia
4.How much does it cost?
The cost of the procedure if performed in rooms under local anaesthesia is $3,850. This fee includes the doctor’s fee, the minor operating facility fee and three post-surgery follow up consultations. Should the procedure be performed at the hospital under GA, additional theatre and anaesthetist fees would apply.
Please keep in mind not all patients are alike and some will require a slightly different operation than others. Rest assured, you will receive a specific price quotation during your consultation visit. Our staff are always happy to discuss these matters with you in more detail.
As we allocate and exclusively reserve an hour in consultation time with the doctor, it is practice policy that we obtain your credit card details when booking and confirming your consultation. All payments are processed 5 working days prior to the date of consultation. This policy has been implemented to discourage no shows and last minute cancellations.
