Few people will be ready for sexual activity the day after breast augmentation surgery, but it won’t be long before you may want to engage in sex. If you’re hurting, or using pain medication, having sex will most likely be the last thing on your mind. You want to enjoy your sexual activity, so it is better to wait until you’re not hurting.
Having someone’s body weight on your breasts that are healing, or even just the movement may be uncomfortable. Your partner gently stroking your new assets is OK, but no massage or vigorous rough play is recommended. Bear in mind that your breasts may have sensory changes, and there may be times when you have numbness or hypersensitivity which can be uncomfortable and even painful.
If your sex life or sexual activity relies on nipple/breast sensation, breast augmentation may not be right for you. There is no test to determine when or if you will have the same sensation as pre-surgery, so this must be seriously considered.
Following surgery, you may be taking antibiotics which can interfere with the oral contraceptive pill, so you must take additional precautions. There are many times that this is not considered and many of our patients have had the little surprises.
You are the only one who can determine when you’re ready to resume having sex, and this may call for patience on behalf of your partner. There is no right or wrong time to resume the romance – just take it slow and easy and only proceed when it is comfortable for you.
