All surgery leaves scars. There is no way around it. Some are more visible than others, and it is important to follow the instructions of your surgeon to assist with optimum healing and minimising of the appearance of a scar.

Scars may be unattractive and of different colour than the surrounding skin tone. Scar appearance may also vary within the same scar. Scars may appear different on the right and left side of the body. Hypertophic or keloid scarring (resembling a small growth on the skin) may require surgical revision or treatment.

If scarring is something that you do not want, you must consider that surgery may not be the right option for you. Cutting skin will always result in a scar, and the degree of scarring cannot be controlled. With good incision healing, minimal scarring is expected, though it cannot be guaranteed.
