Breast augmentation is a procedure where implants such as silicon gel or saline are placed inside the breast to alter its shape and size. The recovery process of having breast implants is more complicated than the procedure itself which normally takes approximately one to two hours. The recovery period does vary for every patient, is even more complex and may sometimes raise more questions, and it’s something that we want to answer here.
During the recovery period, each patient will somewhat feel differently. After the surgery, patients may feel minimal discomfort for the first two days and will usually take about a week before the patient can resume to their normal activities but this would also depend on what type of work the patient has. It is advisable to refrain from doing vigorous activity for a period of one month to prevent the possibility of post operative bleeding. After surgery, doctors would suggest patients not to rush back to work after just a couple of days even if you are feeling better since in worse case scenario, complications such as hematoma may occur.
Swelling is also expected and normally lasts for 6 weeks. During this period, it is suggested to wear bras that have an adjustable band without under wire or push up padding. There is no need to worry about buying the right cup size since your breasts are still swollen. The right thing to do is wait for the swelling to stop. After that your breasts will be of consistent size and that would be the best time to purchase fitted bras.
